Bipolar disorder, causes crippling depressive episodes and dangerous manic episodes. It is important for anyone who suffers from severe depression to see a psychiatrist to rule out the possibility of bipolar disorder, as the treatment is very different than the treatment for "unipolar" depression. Most often, bipolar disorder requires medication management and sometimes it may be difficult to treat with one medication alone. It is critical that a board certified psychiatrist, experienced in treating mood disorders, manages bipolar medications. Dr Brandemihl has that experience. Psychiatric treatment at Buckeye Psychiatry in Columbus, Ohio, has been crucial in helping many clients with the emotional roller coaster of bipolar disorder.
